He had a dream in his eyes, to become a fighter pilot in Indian Airforce. This was his dream since childhood, to become an IAF fighter pilot one day, and fly for his nation. Not only he studied day and night back-breaking for his aim, but also did lots of work to earn and pay for his education. And, this was then in 1957, that his dream of getting into IAF was really close. After clearing the entrance, he appeared in the selection board of Indian Defence forces at Dehradun, Uttarakhand (Then in Uttar Pradesh) for the selection interview. He had dreamt of this for years, and had worked heavily to fulfil his dream of becoming a pilot.
Soon, the reality was in front of his eyes!! He had his fate, the so called fruit of his work in his hands!! Eight others before him got selected, and He was Ninth!!
The dream, that was born in his heart, built up in his mind, and lived with him, was deeply shattered. The ultimate result, which he could never change in his life, was in front of him, with no other choice, no other direction.
At, that time, he was at the stage of sheer despondence. With that depressed face, he took a bus to Rishikesh and went to the banks of river Ganga. He was so shattered, that he had explained this as, "I stood at the edge of a cliff with a lake below"!
That moment he had no choice, his eyes were blind to see the journey of his life, and his mind was blank. But that moment, someone appeared.
He said, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Soon Swami Sivananda, a saint was standing in front of him, to show to him "THE REALITY OF LIFE".
Swami Sivananda explained him, how to "Defeat the defeatist tendency".
The words that Swami told him are,
"Accept your destiny and go ahead with your life. You are not destined to become an Air Force pilot. What you are destined to become is not revealed now but it is predetermined. Forget this failure, as it was essential to lead you to your destined path. Search, instead, for the true purpose of your existence. Become one with yourself, my son! Surrender yourself to the wish of God."
These lines, changed his life, and gave him a direction, that he followed till the end of his life. And today, we all know the life story of the great legend.
DR. A.P.J. ABDL KALAM, THE MISSILE MAN OF INDIA, THE 11TH PRESIDENT OF INDIA,
THE PUREST SOUL!!
The point that comes to my mind reading this is, What would have happened, If he would have thought of committing suicide at that point of life, when he was blind to see his journey of life.
Dear Friends!!
This is not just Dr. Kalam's story, this is your story, the story of your life!! Remember, "What you are destined to become is not revealed now but it is predetermined. Forget this failure, as it was essential to lead you to your destined path. Search, instead, for the true purpose of your existence. Become one with yourself, my son! Surrender yourself to the wish of God."
